EDCL (European Digial Cinema Library)
A project coordinated by CN FILMS, in partnership with Europa Distribution, and supported by the MEDIA PROGRAMME of the European Union

American studios can take advantage of the economies of scale that digital cinema will generate through the sharing of technical and economical means on a whole territory and even the world.

The objective of EDCL is to make sure that European films also benefit from these economies of scale and from the flexibility offered by digital cinema, still relying on the actual balance between producers, sales agents, distributors, and theaters. This can be achieved by sharing the costs and the technical means between several distributors of a same title.

To that extent, this project wishes to build an online film library accessible at all times, gathering all different language versions of a film, and directly usable by any distributor who has bought the rights.

The project aims to:

•encourage the digitalization of European content

       •ease their availability towards distributors

•ease their distribution and booking in theatres

•build a film archive accessible at all times, gathering all different language versions of a film, and directly usable by any distributor who has bought its rights

To do so, the coordinator will offer to financially support the beneficiaries up to 40% of their costs and to centralize all available jpeg 2000 masters in an online library.

Henceforth the coordinator will technically help the distributors, manage the digital storage and the digital distribution on behalf of the beneficiaries.

This Financial support is only accessible for European Titles.
