Europa Distribution was created in March 2006 at the initiative of French independent distributors. Its aim is to gather the independent European distributors who all share the same worries, in order to push on common problems at the European level.
Europa Distribution, with a membership of 63 leading independent distributors representing 19 countries, serves as the voice of the European independent film distributor. It acts as a lobby, a think tank as well as a network and aims to develop a strong European film industry.
The Board of Administration, chaired by Robert Guédiguian, whose films are well-known in Europe, is composed of 10 independent European distributors, representative in terms of nationality, type of structure, etc.
This site will provide you with useful information regarding our activities, our members and our experiences throughout the world, helping strengthening the bonds between distributors in and out of Europe."

Europa Distribution, European network that gathers sixty independent distributors from 19 European countries, The Rencontres du Cinéma d'Amérique Latine de Toulouse, Festival that organizes Cine en Construccion and Cine in development , The FICCO, Mexico City International Contemporary Film Festival, The CICAE, International network of arthouse exhibitors have gathered together to launch a project between Latin-America and Europe based on 3 objectives :
• To encourage and facilitate the two-way flow of cinematographic works in commercial and non commercial circuits.
• To strengthen the cooperation and solidarity between cultural entities and the audiovisual industries of EU Member States and those of Latin-America

Our first statement was that there are both common and specific problems in Latin-America and Europe regarding film distribution and exhibition. In fact, there are currently 2 main issues regarding the distribution of Latin-American and European movies in the 2 continents:
• European films have a very small presence on the big Latin American Market because of the very large presence of American cinema and the higher acquisition prices of European movies.
• Latin-American films do not often have an efficient promotion and access to European cinemas.
We believe that one solution to these issues is the exchange of experiences, competences, and knowledge.
Therefore, in order to implement the mentioned objectives the consortium plans to organize workshops in Mexico City/Mexico during the FICCO (February 22-25 2009) and Toulouse/France during the Rencontres Cinéma d¿Amérique Latine (March 22-26 2009) gathering 12 distributors/buyers/sales agents/diffusion professionals coming from both continents.
The 2 sessions (in Mexico City and Toulouse) will have different focuses (access to movies, new technologies, promotion strategies, networking) and hold different activities (conferences, case studies, discussion forums, screenings¿).
The synergies created by the workshops will strengthen the circulation of the works and the competitiveness of the cinema industries of both continents and will encourage the creation and consolidation of networks of artistic and industrial cooperation between European buyers/exporters and buyers/exporters from Latin-America."
