EUROPA DISTRIBUTION INTERNATIONAL - SHORT PRESENTATION
Distribution support for third country movies in Europe.
With the support of MEDIA MUNDUS
Europa Distribution International (EDI) is a new project coordinated by Europa Distribution in partnership with Europa Cinémas, the Valdivia Film Festival and 24 European distributors from 16 countries.
EDI is supported by MEDIA MUNDUS.
The general objectives of the project are:
- Promote sales of third-country movies in Europe and of European films in third countries.
- Encourage financial investment on the part of distributors to facilitate the release of such films in theatres and on new distribution platforms.
- Increase programming of non-European films in European cinemas and of European films in third country cinemas to improve their public visibility and attendance numbers.
- Encourage the innovative use of new technologies in order to reach new audiences for third country works.
- Increase distribution of third countries animated movies and young audiences driven strategies.
- Bring together European and third-country distributors into an international network, giving them common objectives to achieve a better circulation of non-European movies in Europe and of European movies in the world.
In partnership with the Valdivia Film Festival, Europa Distribution and Europa Cinemas have determined a distribution support mechanism for 24 European distributors from 16 European countries who release third countries movies. This support relates to a Europa Cinemas mechanism which is already supported by MEDIA.
Our scheme will support 50% of the P&A expenses for at least one third country movie per European distributor per year. Special attention will be paid to movies selected in A and B Festivals, to Cinema en Construccion awards and animated movies. We have also made a partnership with the Annecy Animated Film Festival which selected for 2011 9 third countries animated movies that we will promote among our co-beneficiaries. We will also develop actions between European and third countries distributors (newsletter, Cineuropa partnership, Valdivia meeting...) in order to create a strong network that shares information and experiences.
